Testing & Certification

This section of the website provides a summary of the types of testing that can be undertaken by Active Carbon Filters Ltd, followed by a series of downloadable files.  These include the Contaminants List to enable identification of the type of activated carbon most suitable for the removal of a known contaminant, plus the Isotherms demonstrating a particular carbon's performance against a specific contaminant.

The methods used for testing the abilities of activated carbon filters depend on the specific application, however the tests detailed below are used throughout the industry and recognised by filter purchasers as an acceptable means of assessment.

CTC Testing

Test to determine the physical adsorption ability of a base carbon and states its capacity as calculated for carbon tetrachloride.

Residual Capacity

Test to determine the remaining life of a carbon filter when in use against a specific contaminant e.g. the removal of SO2 in museum and archive applications.

DOP Testing

DOP (Di-octyl Phthalate) testing is used by Active Carbon Filters Ltd to confirm the efficiency and integrity of the seal when a HEPA particulate filter is combined with an activated carbon filter in the same housing.

Isotherms

Isotherms are available for to demonstrate a particular carbon’s performance against a specific contaminant such as xylene, acetone, heptane etc.
